Mage Talents (updated for 5.4)

This area lists the current mage talents as of the 5.4 patch.The talent system has been completely redone and below are the new talents available to mages. Every 15 levels you have access to new talent tier. At level 90 you will have access to all 6 tiers of talent and will be able to select one talent to use for your mage from each tier.

    Tier 1 (level 15)
    This spell allows you to instantly cast a spell and it has a cooldown of 90 seconds. In most cases this will be the talent of choice for frost and arcane mages unless the encounter requires a lot of movement.
    Suppresses movement slowing effects and increases your movement speed by 150% for 1.5 sec.
    This spell may be cast while a cast time spell is in progress and is not on the global cooldown.

    25 second cooldown, instant
    Allows you to move while casting and channeling the next Mage spell that has a base cast or channel time less than 4 sec. This spell may be cast while a cast time spell is in progress and is not on the global cooldown, and accumulates up to 3 charges. Lasts 15 seconds.
    Tier 2 (level 30)
    Envelops you in a temporal shield for 4 sec, reducing all damage taken by 15%. 100% of the damage taken while shielded will be healed back over 6 sec. This spell is usable while stunned, frozen, incapacitated, feared or asleep, and is not on the global cooldown.
    -instant, 3% base mana cost, 25 second cooldown
    Encases the Mage in fiery energy, absorbing damage from each attack made against the Mage equal to 15% of their spellpower, up to a maximum of 30% of the attack.
    Instantly shields you, absorbing X damage. Lasts 60 seconds. While the shield holds, spellcasting will not be delayed by damage.
    Tier 3 (level 45)
    Summons a Ring of Frost at the target location. Enemies entering the ring will become frozen for 10 seconds. Lasts 10 seconds. 10 yd radius. Limit 10.
    This spell can be activated after taking +2% damage or kill something, when activated it gives a 150% speed bonus for 1.5 seconds.
    This spell absorbs a set amount of damage (determined by spell power) and prevents spell pushback while the barrier holds. This is the best talent in most cases.
    Tier 4 (level 60)
    This can be instantly cast and lasts for 20 seconds or until you perform an action. When cast this spell allows you to become invisible, removes 2 dots and reduces incoming damage by 90%. Damage reduction continues after you come out of being invisible for 3 seconds. This is a very good PVP talent to have but it is situational as PVE talent.
    This is a passive talent but can only be activated once every 2 minutes. This talent is activate if you take damage that would kill your mage, instead of dying your hit points are set to half your maximum life and then you take another 40% damage over the next 6 seconds. This is considered the best PVE talent for this tier in most situations.
    This spell has a 3 minute cooldown and restores 30% of your hit points. This spell also finishes the cooldowns of Ice Block, Frost Nova and Cone of Cold. This talent is very situational.
    Tier 5 (level 75)
    Places a Nether Tempest on the target which deals [ 3,900 + 24.36% of Spell Power ] Arcane damage over 12 sec. Each time Nether Tempest deals damage, an additional 50% of that damage is also dealt to a random target within 10 yards. This spell is strongest when applied to 3 or 4 targets.
    -costs 1.5% base mana to cast, instant
    The target becomes a Living Bomb, taking [ 4,288 + 80.36% of Spell Power ] Fire damage over 12 sec. When this effect ends, or the target dies, it explodes to deal an additional [ 429 + 8% of Spell Power ] Fire damage to the target and all other enemies within 10 yards. Limit 3 targets. This spell is strongest when applied to 1 or 2 targets.

    -1 second cooldown, costs 1.5 base mana to cast, 40 yrd range

    Places a Frost Bomb on the target. After 4 sec, the bomb explodes, dealing [ 4,600 + 344.68% of Spell Power ] Frost damage to the primary target, and [ 2,301 + 172.5% of Spell Power ] Frost damage to all other targets within 10 yds. All affected targets are slowed by 70% for 2 sec. Frost Bomb's countdown and cooldown are reduced by haste. This spell is strongest when it can hit 5 or more targets with the explosion.
    Tier 6 (level 90)
    Removes Evocation's cooldown and reduces its channel period and duration by 50%.
    Completing an Evocation causes you to deal 15% increased spell damage, but passively regenerate 50% less mana, for 60 seconds.

    Places a Rune of Power on the ground, which lasts for 60 sec. While standing within 5 yds of your own Rune of Power, your mana regeneration is increased by 75% and your spell damage is increased by 15%. Only 2 Runes of Power can be placed at one time. Replaces Evocation.
    -cast time 1.4 seconds, 30 yrd range.
    Places a magical ward on you, absorbing up to [ 1,041 + Arcane Spell Power ] damage for 8 sec. Absorbed damage will restore up to 18% of your maximum mana. When this effect ends, you gain up to 15% increased spell damage for 25 sec, based on the absorption used.
    Passive: Increases spell damage by 6% and increases mana regeneration by 65%. This effect is deactivated while Incanter's Ward is on cooldown.
