Mage Builds, Updated for Mists of Pandaria 5.2
MageBuilds.com is a site that lists different talent builds for mages for World of Warcraft. Finding the right mage build that has been tested and works can save you a lot of time and gold. I also list information on rotations, spells, talents, glyphs and more. A lot of the mage builds and information has come from forums, elitistjerks, wowwiki, etc.. I hope you find the following mage talent builds and information useful.
With the release of the expansion Mists of Pandaria the talent system was completely changed for Mages. There are no longer different trees for you to put points into, instead there is now 6 tiers of talents. Each talent tier has 3 talents and you can pick one talent from each unlocked tier. When leveling a talent tier unlocks every 15 levels.
Talent changes are not the only change made in this new expansion. The level cap has increased to 90, there are new areas, raids and 5 mans available, the glyph system has changed some, there is a new pet fighting system and much much more.
For previous builds before Mists of Pandaria was released please see:
News:Patch 5.2 has been released for Mists of Pandaria. Talent Changes: -Invocation now removes Evocation cooldown, and reduces its channeling time and duration by 50%. A completed Evocation now grants 15% increased damage for 1 minute after an Evocation is completed, instead of 25% increased damage for 40 seconds. Passive mana regeneration is reduced by 50% only while Invoker's Energy is active. -Incanter's Ward can now be removed by magic dispels. -Blazing Speed is now a level-15 talent, replacing Scorch. -Flameglow, a new talent is available at level 30 and replaces Blazing Speed. The passive ability encases the Mage in fiery energy, absorbing damage from each attack made against the Mage equal to 20% of their spellpower, up to a maximum of 30% of the attack. -Greater Invisibility now has a 90-second cooldown (was 2.5 minutes). -Ice Floes now has a 45-second cooldown (was 1 minute) and its duration has been increased to 15 seconds (was 10 seconds). -Deep Freeze now stuns the target for 5 seconds (was 4 seconds). -Ring of Frost cast instantly through Presence of Mind now has a 2-second arming period before the Freeze effect is activated against targets in the area of effect. The 2-second arming period can be reduced by Haste. Temporal Ripples from Temporal Shield can no longer be dispelled. -Scorch is no longer a talent and is now available to all Fire Mages.
Glyph Changes: -Glyph of Evocation now causes the Invocation talent to restore 10% (was 20%) health after completing an Evocation. -Glyph of Fire Blast has been replaced with Glyph of Inferno Blast. Glyph of Inferno Blast causes damage-over-time effects spread by Inferno Blast to spread to 1 additional target. -Glyph of Deep Freeze now removes it from global cooldown but also reduces its duration by 1 second. -Glyph of Ice Lance now causes Ice Lance to deal 50% damage to 1 additional target, up from 40%. -Frostbolt cast by Mirror Image now deals 50% more damage. Mage Tier Gear Changes: -Mage PvP 2-piece bonus now requires Counterspell to successfully interrupt a spell before applying the 4 second cooldown reduction to Counterspell. Arcane

Arcane Mage Talent Builds (updated for patch 5.2)
The arcane tree is currently the highest DPS that can be done in the game with best in slot gear.
Standard DPS Arcane Mage Build for 5.2
- This is the basic arcane mage build for MoP. This build assumes you will be able to stand still most of the time to do your damage and that you are dealing with a large number of targets. Living bomb does give you the ability to do good damage on up to 4 targets.
Moderate Movement PVE Arane Build
- What the title says.

Extreme Movement and encounters where you take a lot of damage
High Movement AOE Build
- Good for dealing with large packs of mobs and also has some talents to allow you to kite better.
Note these builds will be similar for the other specializations as a talent that allows you to move while casting is typically just as good in another specialization.
Also another point the tier 5 talents are all very similar to one another for the DPS that they put out so if you like the mechanics of one over another feel free to take it. Remember this is early, talents maybe adjusted a lot so keep this in mind.
Fire Mage Talent Builds (updated for patch 5.2)
Standard DPS Mage Build for 5.2
- If mana is ever an issue drop Presence of Mind and take Scorch. Scorch is also good for for encounters where you have to move.
Frost Talent Builds (updated for patch 5.2)
Standard DPS Frost Mage Build for 5.2
AOE Frost Build
- This build assumes you will be moving some durring the encounter, if this is not the case then use PoM and Rune of Power or Invocation.
